Make It or Break It
This ad for Ikea's winter promo takes on typography in a different way. The use of furniture promotes curiosity in the viewer, while also incorporating the product effectively. A feeling of comfort and festivity invite you to bring your attention to detail in a setting that is familiar. The ad is both bold, yet subtle. I think I will rearrange my room.
Although I am a fan of manipulating type and jazzing up font with unorthodox shape and colour, this one is too much for me. The type has been pushed further than I'd like to see with its 3D effects and having the font used mainly as a canvas in which to splatter colour and gradients into. I like to see typography with a voice, allowing each letter to reveal something one might not expect. I feel this image could be easily duplicated through the use of preset brushes in photoshop, there is no real creativity or insight showing through.
Raison D'Être
As an aspiring graphic designer, there are many things I plan to attain from taking a multimedia design class. Other than wanting to further pursue my passion for art as a long-term career, I'd like to hone my own unique style and be able to contribute a vision to intrigue and inspire others. I am encouraged to create new, original art by observing the work of both my peers and role models. I'm constantly looking to challenge myself through various forms of media and anticipate the journey ahead.
